Standard Sweets is tucked away in Sadar Bazar at Shop No 790, right in Chaman Wala Pech inside the Bartan Market. If you’ve ever been to Sadar Bazar, you know it’s a total maze of narrow lanes and people carrying huge loads on their heads. Our shop is right in the middle of all that chaos. The Bartan Market is mostly known for pots and pans, so having a sweet shop here is a bit of a relief for people who are tired from shopping for their kitchens. We’ve been in this specific spot for a long time. The walls are a bit stained from the steam and the floors are worn down from so many feet passing through. It’s a small shop, maybe smaller than people expect, but we fit a lot of stuff in there. The noise from the street is constant, with bells ringing and people shouting prices, but inside, we just focus on the trays of food. Sometimes the rain leaks a little near the front shutter, so we have to keep an eye on that during monsoon season. It’s a gritty, real part of the city and we wouldn’t want to be anywhere else. We don't use fancy packaging or have a website. People just know where we are by word of mouth or by spotting the old blue sign. It’s just how we operate, keeping things simple and local in the heart of the market.
