Choudhary Dall Mill

Choudhary Dall Mill is located in the Naveen Galla area of Madawara. If you come by here, the first thing you will notice is the smell of raw lentils and the sound of the machines grinding away. We have been processing different kinds of dall for a long time. It is a dusty job, and by the end of the day, everything is covered in a fine layer of powder. We spend a lot of time cleaning the machines and making sure the bags are tied up tight. Madawara is a place where everyone knows what everyone else is doing, so news travels fast. If the quality of the pulse isn't good, people will know about it by lunch. We try to keep things simple and just focus on the milling. The trucks come in from the farms, we weigh the loads, and then the work begins. It’s a lot of heavy lifting, moving sacks from one corner to the other. Sometimes the power goes out, and everything just stops, which is frustrating, but we use that time to sit and have a smoke or some tea. We don’t have any fancy marketing people. We just rely on the fact that people know our name and know where to find us in Naveen Galla. It’s a tough business with small margins, but it’s what my family has always done. We just keep the mill running as long as there is grain to grind. We open every day except for the holidays.
