Rangoli Pre School

Our little school is tucked away at number 18 in the Shanti Villa Bungalows area. If you know where Sargasan Cross Road is, we are just a short walk from there. It is a nice, quiet spot which is good for the small kids who come here every morning. We start the day early when the parents drop off their toddlers on their way to work in Gandhinagar or Ahmedabad. You can usually hear the noise from the street—lots of laughing and the occasional crying when a kid does not want to say goodbye to their mom. Inside, we have rooms filled with plastic blocks, crayons, and small chairs. It is never really tidy, but that is how a place for kids should be. We spend the hours drawing, singing songs, and just letting them run around the play area. The teachers here are mostly women from the neighborhood who have kids of their own. They know how to handle a tantrum or a scraped knee without making a big deal out of it. We have a small yard where they can play when the weather isn't too hot. Sargasan has changed a lot lately with all the new buildings, but our corner feels pretty much the same. We just try to make sure the kids have a safe place to be until their parents come back at noon. It is a simple routine, but it works for the families around here.
