Our place is out on Survey No. 3/5, right on the road between Mota Jalundra and Zak. If you’re driving down Zak Jalundra Road in Dehgam, you’ll see the Umiya Batteries sign. It’s a bit of a trek from the main city, but we like being out here where there’s more space for the trucks to come and go. Dealing with batteries is heavy work, so the guys are usually pretty tired by the end of the shift. The office is right next to the production area, so it gets a little loud sometimes, but you get used to it after a week or two. We started small, just a couple of us trying to figure things out, and now we’ve got a decent setup. The road outside gets pretty muddy when it rains, which can be a pain for the deliveries. We spend a lot of time checking the stock and making sure the orders are ready to go out to the dealers. It’s not a glamorous job, but it’s steady. We have our lunch together under the shade when it’s hot, talking about whatever is going on in the village or the latest cricket scores. It’s a practical environment. We don’t have fancy carpets or glass walls, just concrete floors and sturdy shelves that can hold the weight of what we make. That’s how we like it.
