Hi-Om Engineering Works

The shop here at Plot No. 536 in Sector 8 has been around for some time. We spend most of our days surrounded by metal shavings and the smell of oil. It’s not the cleanest place, but that’s just how an engineering workshop looks when there’s actual work happening. People walk by Sector 8 and hear the lathes humming or the sound of someone grinding down a rough edge. We don't have a fancy office with leather chairs. Instead, there’s an old desk covered in sketches and tea stains where we figure out the day’s tasks. My hands are usually covered in grease by ten in the morning. That’s just the way it goes when you’re fixing things or making parts from scratch. Some days the machines run smooth, and other days we’re spending hours just trying to get one piece of equipment to cooperate. It gets hot in the afternoons, so we keep the doors wide open to catch whatever breeze comes through Sector 8. The guys here have been doing this for years, so we don't need to talk much to know who needs to do what. We just show up, look at the pile of work waiting for us, and start. It’s practical work for people who don’t mind getting their shirts dirty. Sometimes a neighbor stops by just to chat or ask for a quick weld on a broken tool. We’re just part of the scenery here now.
