Our shop, Gold Smith, is over at C-111 in Zanda Chowk, Gandhidham. It is a small place, but we have been here for quite some time now. Inside, it’s mostly just a few glass counters and a small workspace in the back where we do the actual work. We have these tiny hammers, files, and blowtorches that we use for fixing jewelry or making small adjustments. The light has to be very bright so we can see what we are doing with the small pieces. It can get a bit cramped when more than two customers come in at once. We don't have any fancy air conditioning, just a ceiling fan that hums all day. Most of our day is spent sitting at the bench with a magnifying glass. We see a lot of people from the neighborhood who bring in things that need a quick repair or a polish. The air smells a bit like the cleaning solutions we use. Zanda Chowk is a busy area, so there is always something happening outside the door. We keep our tools organized in little wooden drawers, though they sometimes get mixed up when we are in a hurry. It’s a quiet kind of work compared to the noisy shops nearby. We just focus on the task at hand, whether it’s a broken chain or a ring that needs resizing. We work until the sun goes down and then lock up the heavy metal gate for the night.
