Disha Computer Education Center

We run this computer center near the Government High School. It's also right by the Co-Operative Bank. It’s a good spot because students can just walk over after their classes are done for the day. We have a few rooms with long tables and several monitors. It gets a bit noisy in there when everyone is typing on the keyboards at once. We teach basic things like typing, using the internet, and some common software programs that people need for work. Most kids around here come to learn because they know they need it for jobs or their school projects. We started years ago with just two computers and now we have more. The internet connection acts up sometimes when it rains heavily, but we call the technician and get it fixed. It’s not a fancy office with big chairs. We have some posters on the walls about shortcut keys and different parts of a computer. I handle the morning shift and my cousin comes in for the evening hours. We keep a simple paper register for attendance on the front desk. The floor is just plain cement and we sweep it every morning. We try to keep the fans running all the time because the machines give off a lot of heat in the small rooms. Parents come by to ask about different courses for their children. We explain what we can do in plain language. It's a local thing, nothing corporate about it. We just want to make sure people in the neighborhood know how to use a PC. It's right near the bank, so it's easy to find.
