Tekchand General Store

Tekchand General Store is right here on Tilpat Road in the Main Market area of Sector 35. If you know Faridabad, you know this part of Sarai Khawaja gets pretty busy during the evenings. We have been sitting in this shop for a long time now, just dealing with the daily stuff people need for their kitchens and homes. It isn't a fancy place with bright neon lights or anything like that. We just have our wooden shelves filled with packets of lentils, different types of soaps, and those big jars of biscuits that kids like. The floor is just plain cement and sometimes we get a bit of dust coming in from the road, so we spend a lot of time wiping things down. Most of the people who come here live in the nearby blocks and we know what they usually want before they even ask. My father used to handle things differently, but now we just keep it simple. We open up early, usually around eight, and stay until the market starts to quiet down at night. There is no big office or manager here, just us behind the counter. Sometimes the delivery truck is late and we run out of a certain brand of oil, but that is just how it goes. We try to keep enough stock so people don't have to go all the way to the bigger markets. It is just a regular life running a store in Sector 35.
