Syaram Shambhudayal Kiryana Store

Our store is right in the middle of the Old Sabzi Mandi area of Faridabad. If you have ever been to the mandi, you know how loud and chaotic it can be, especially very early in the morning. We have to open up while it is still dark outside to get ready for the crowds. The smell of fresh vegetables is everywhere, but inside our shop, it smells more like dried spices and turmeric. We have large open bags of different grains and pulses where people can see exactly what they are getting. The floor is uneven and the walls are filled with wooden racks that have been here for decades. It is a family-type of business and we have been in this same spot for a very long time. There is always someone shouting outside or a cart being pushed past the door, so it is never quiet. We sell a lot of traditional items that you might not find in the newer supermarkets. People come to us because they know we have the specific kind of lentils or spices they use for their cooking at home. It is a messy, busy place but it feels right to be part of the old market. We close up when the mandi starts to quiet down in the afternoon and we get a bit of rest.
