Neetu General Store

Our store is right at the 4-5 Chowk in NIT, so there is always a lot of dust and noise from the vehicles passing by. It is a very busy spot in Faridabad and we have been here at 5K/39 for quite some time. The shop is basically one large room filled with metal racks that we have bolted to the walls. We try to keep a bit of everything, from washing powder to loaves of bread. The bread usually arrives fresh in the morning and is gone by the afternoon. I spend my day sitting on a plastic chair near the entrance, greeting the people I recognize. Sometimes the neighborhood kids come in just to look at the toys we have hanging up, even if they don't have money to buy anything. We don't have any fancy displays or bright signs. The sign above the door is a bit faded from the sun, but people know where we are. It gets really crowded in the evenings when everyone is coming back from the factories or offices. We have to move fast to get everyone what they want so they can get home to their families. My hands get tired from bagging up sugar and rice all day, but it is good to be busy. It is just a regular life running a store in a busy part of town where people need their essentials.
