Bookshook Fly is on the ground floor at No. 1A/23 in the N.I.T. area. It’s a convenient spot because people can just walk right in without having to deal with stairs or elevators. Our space is pretty much filled from floor to ceiling with books and packages. It’s a bit of a squeeze sometimes when a new shipment arrives and we haven't cleared out the old stuff yet. We started this because we liked the idea of a local hub for readers, though these days we spend more time packing boxes for delivery than anything else. The ground floor location is great for loading the delivery bikes that come by in the afternoons. We have a small staff, mostly just local people who live a few streets away. The walls are lined with shelves that we built ourselves, and they aren't perfectly straight, but they hold the weight just fine. We don't have a fancy coffee machine or a break room; we just sit on the crates when we need a rest. Sometimes the lighting in the back is a bit dim, but we know where everything is kept. It’s a bit messy, and there’s always a bit of tape or bubble wrap on the floor, but it’s a working shop. We don't try to make it look like a boutique; it’s just a place where books move in and out every day. We’re happy with the little corner we’ve built here.
