Hemant General Store

If you walk down KC Road near the Janta Band, you will find our small shop tucked away there. It has been in this part of Faridabad for a while now. I spend most of my day sitting behind the wooden counter, watching the people go by and helping whoever stops in. We have the usual things like biscuits, notebooks, and cleaning supplies. Sometimes the kids from the neighborhood come in with just a few coins looking for something sweet, and I have to help them choose. The shelves are made of old wood and they groan a bit when we put the heavy bags of flour on them. It gets quite dusty because of the road construction nearby, so I am always wiping down the glass jars. We don't really do anything special, just sell the basic things that people in NIT need for their kitchens. My nephew helps me out sometimes in the evenings when it gets crowded with people coming home from work. They usually want cigarettes or matches or maybe some curd for dinner. We keep a small radio playing in the corner just to have some background noise. It isn't a fancy store with bright lights or anything like that. We just keep the door open and wait for the regulars to show up. It is a lot of standing around and waiting, but that is how a general store works in this neighborhood.
