Sas Leathers

Down here on Bhavani Main Road, Sas Leathers takes up Plot No. 150. B.P. Agraharam is a busy area, and being right on the main road means there is always traffic noise. You get used to it after a while. The smell of leather is the first thing people notice when they walk in. It’s a strong, earthy scent that stays in your clothes even after you leave for the day. We have various rolls of leather piled up in different corners, waiting to be cut or treated. It’s manual work mostly. Our hands usually have some stains on them by the afternoon. The floor stays covered in small scraps of material that we sweep up at the end of the shift. We don’t have a fancy showroom or anything like that. Just a workspace where the job gets done. Sometimes the heat in B.P. Agraharam can be a bit much, especially in the middle of the day, so we keep the fans running at full speed. Most of the staff have been working with leather for years, so they know the feel of a good hide just by touching it. We don't spend much time talking about big goals or things like that. We just look at the pieces in front of us and try to make sure they are cut right. It’s honest work that keeps us busy from morning until the sun goes down over the road. There’s always another pile of material waiting for us tomorrow morning.
