You can find us at New No. 37 on Rajamuthiah Road in Periamet. This area has been the heart of the leather trade in Chennai for as long as anyone can remember. Conceria Virginia is right in the middle of it all. The air around here always smells of raw hides and tanning chemicals. It is a tough industry to be in. The work is physically demanding and the heat in Chennai doesn't make it any easier. We spend our days looking at skins, checking the grain, and making sure the tanning process is going the way it should. It is not a clean job. Our clothes usually have stains and the floor is often wet. We deal with a lot of international buyers who want specific finishes for their shoes or bags. We don't have a fancy showroom with soft lighting. If you come to see us, you’ll see the actual work happening. There are piles of leather everywhere and the sound of machines running in the back. We have a small office area where we handle the invoices and shipping manifests. We’ve been at this for a long time and many of our workers have been with us since the start. We just focus on getting the quality right for each batch. It’s hard work, but there is a certain pride in seeing a good piece of leather leave the gate and go to a customer.
