I. M. Leathers

Down on Bhavani Mani Road, right near the old tannery area in B.p. Agraharam, that is where you will find us at No. 11/2. Working with leather is a tough kind of business, and the smell of the raw hides is something you never really get used to, even after you've been doing it for years. It’s a thick smell that stays on your clothes long after you go home. We deal with all sorts of leather materials and scraps here. The shop isn't anything special to look at from the outside, just a building with sturdy walls and plenty of space to stack the goods. We spend most of our time sorting through the skins, looking for any marks or bad spots that we can't use. It’s very physical work and your hands get pretty rough after a while. The road outside is almost always dusty, and there are trucks constantly coming and going from the various tanneries nearby. We usually have an old radio playing in the background to help pass the time during the long shifts. It gets incredibly hot in this part of town, especially in the summer months when the sun beats down on the metal roof. We’ve been at this specific location for a long time now. People in the neighborhood just know us as I. M. Leathers. We don't have a fancy showroom for customers to walk through. Most of our floor space is taken up by the raw materials and finished pieces. It’s a simple life, honestly. We wake up and get through the pile.
