Bay Leather Company

Working on Tannery Street in B. P. Agraharam means you get used to the smell of leather pretty fast. At Bay Leather Company, that is just our everyday reality. Our address is No 15, and it is a place that has seen a lot of hides come through the door. Leather is a tough material to work with. It is heavy and has its own personality, if you know what I mean. We spend the hours cutting, thinning, and stitching. My tools are old but they still do the job better than some of the newer stuff I have seen. The floor is usually covered in scraps. We do not have a polished showroom. If you come by, you will just see us working. The air is thick sometimes, especially when it is humid outside. We do not make a big fuss about what we do. It is a trade that takes time to learn properly. I have been doing this for years, and my hands have the calluses to prove it. It is a bit of a grit-under-the-fingernails kind of life. We just keep our heads down and finish the pieces we started. There is something satisfying about seeing a raw hide turn into something useful. It is not easy work, and it is definitely not clean, but it is what we do here on this street. We just follow the same process every day until the sunlight fades.
