About Reeja Rice Flour – Food & Beverages in Ernakulam
We are tucked away at number 102 in Fort Nagar. It is a quiet enough part of the Fort area, mostly residential with some small businesses mixed in here and there. We spend our days working with rice flour. It’s a messy job sometimes, but someone has to do it for the community. The white dust gets on your clothes and stays there until you wash them. We don't have a big fancy storefront with neon lights or anything special. It is just a workspace where we get the grinding done. People from around the neighborhood stop by when they need a fresh batch for their daily cooking. We see the same faces quite a bit, which is nice. It is good knowing the people who live just a few doors down from the shop. The machines can be a bit temperamental, especially when it’s really hot out, but we manage to keep them running. We’ve been at this address for a good while now. Most days are exactly the same, just filling bags and making sure the texture of the flour is right for the recipes. It’s not the kind of place you’d notice if you were just driving through in a hurry, but the locals know where to find us. We keep the doors open to let some air in when it gets stuffy inside. There is always a lot to do, and we usually start early before the sun gets too high and the heat becomes too much to handle.
