Periyar Valley Spices

Our place is at No. 12, Kuttilakkara Kalady, in the Piraroor area of Aluva. It is a quiet spot compared to the big cities. We deal with spices, which is what this part of the country is known for anyway. The building is old but it serves us well for storing and sorting the different spices that come through. You can smell the pepper and cardamom from down the road. We spend a lot of time sorting through the raw materials by hand, making sure only the good stuff gets packed. It is tedious work, sitting there for hours, but it is the only way to do it right. Aluva is a nice place to work, especially with the river nearby, though it gets very humid. We keep the inventory in dry rooms to make sure nothing spoils. It is mostly just a few of us here. We do not use a lot of big machinery, preferring to do things the way we have always done them. People from the neighborhood sometimes stop by to see what we have fresh. We pack everything into bags and boxes, ready to be sent off to whoever ordered them. There is not much to the story other than we are here every day, working with the spices and trying to keep the business running smoothly. We take it one day at a time, handling the deliveries and keeping the warehouse organized as best we can.
