You can find us at the MIK Building in North Kalamassery. It is a pretty straightforward spot where we spend our hours standing by the chairs. The mirrors have seen a lot of faces over the years. We keep the clippers running and the scissors snip-snipping from morning until we close up at night. It is not one of those high-end salons with scented candles and fancy music. We usually have a local news channel on the TV or just the sound of the fans blowing to keep the heat away. There is always hair on the floor that needs sweeping, no matter how many times we grab the broom. Kalamassery is a busy place, so we get all kinds of people coming in—students, workers, and the regulars who have been coming since we first opened. We talk about the weather, the local traffic, or whatever else is going on in Ernakulam while we work. The chairs are a bit worn, but they are comfortable enough for a quick trim. We do not make a big fuss about things. You come in, sit down, and we do our best with what you ask for. Sometimes it is busy and people have to wait on the bench, scrolling on their phones or reading an old newspaper. It is a simple life, but it is our life here in the building. We just keep the blades sharp and the towels ready.
