Our hotel group is based up here in Gangtok, right in the Deorali area. Living and working in Sikkim means we deal with a lot of travelers coming through looking for a decent place to stay while they see the mountains. We have a few different spots under the Sonam Palgey name. It’s a family-run kind of feeling even though we have grown over the years. The weather up here can be a bit unpredictable, which keeps things interesting for our guests and the staff. We aren't some giant international chain with robots; we are just local people who know these hills. Sometimes the phone lines act up or the fog rolls in thick, but that’s just life in Gangtok. Most of our staff have lived here forever. We spend a lot of time making sure the rooms are tidy and the tea is hot for whoever walks in. It’s a lot of work running hotels in a place like this, but we enjoy meeting the different people who pass through. Whether it's a quick stop or a long holiday, we’re just here doing our thing in the mountains. It's a simple life but a busy one, especially during the tourist seasons when everyone wants to see the sights. We just keep the doors open and the rooms ready as best as we can.
