Kumari Archana Hs School

Tadong is a hilly part of Gangtok, and getting up to our school on Kaluk/Renchenpong Road can be a bit of a climb if you aren't used to it. We are located right near the government school, so the whole area is usually buzzing with students in different uniforms every morning. The weather here in Gangtok changes so fast that we spend half our time opening windows for the sun and the other half closing them against the mist. Our building is a bit tucked away, and it’s not particularly large. The rooms are cozy, which is good when the winter chill starts coming down from the mountains. We have wooden floors in some parts that creak when you walk on them, and the walls are decorated with whatever the kids made in their last art class. There isn't a big administration team here. It’s usually just a few of us handling everything from the admissions to fixing a broken window pane. We don’t have a massive field for sports, but the kids find ways to play in the smaller spaces we have. Life moves a bit slower up here than it does in the plains, and we like it that way. We just focus on keeping the kids warm and making sure they have their textbooks. It’s a quiet life, mostly, and we just keep the school running as best we can every day.
