About Assam Rifle Public School – Education in East Khasi Hills
Assam Rifle Public School sits up in Laitkor, right there in Shillong. The weather here in Meghalaya is usually a bit damp and misty, but that is just part of living in the hills. We have a lot of space out here, which is nice for the students who like to be outdoors. Being associated with the Assam Rifles means things are run with a bit of a routine. It isn't overly stiff, but we do like to keep a schedule. The campus has a lot of trees and you can see the clouds moving across the hills most mornings. It’s a long way from the noisy city center, so it stays pretty quiet except for when the kids are out for sports. We have people from all over coming here, and the staff lives on or near the grounds mostly. The buildings are sturdy because they have to be with all the rain we get. Sometimes the fog gets so thick you can't see the next building over, which the kids seem to enjoy more than the teachers do. We focus on the basics and making sure everyone stays warm and fed while they do their lessons. It’s a practical kind of place. Not a lot of fancy decorations, just classrooms, some dorms, and plenty of fresh air. It’s been a staple of the Laitkor area for a long time. It feels like its own little village.
