This office for Saint Gobain Gyproc India Ltd. is located over in Nand Nagri at House Number B 2/128. If you know Delhi, you know Nand Nagri is a really packed area with lots of narrow lanes and people everywhere. It’s not the easiest place to drive a big car into, but it’s where we’ve been for a while. The building we are in is quite old and the walls could probably use a new coat of paint, but it serves its purpose. We mostly look after the local supply of gypsum and plaster products from this spot. It’s a lot of manual work tracking the inventory and talking to the local builders who come by. The room is usually filled with the sound of the street outside—horns honking and people shouting. We have a small table where we keep the ledger books and a computer that takes forever to start up in the morning. Sometimes we sit outside on the steps when it’s too stuffy inside. It’s a very practical kind of place, no fancy carpets or glass walls here. We just focus on getting the gypsum to the sites that need it. Most of the people working here have been around for years, so we all know how the system works. It’s a bit messy sometimes, with samples of boards lying around, but we know where everything is. There’s an old tea stain on the main ledger book from a few months back that we never managed to get out.
