Automat Industries Pvt. Ltd. operates from 18-19 Dilshad Garden, right on the G.T. Road. Being on the main road means we hear the trucks and buses honking all day long. It’s a busy part of town. Our unit is spread across two plots, 18 and 19. It’s an old-style industrial building. The gates are heavy iron and they creak when we open them at eight in the morning. Inside, the layout is pretty basic. We have the machines on one side and the storage on the other. There’s a small office space partitioned off with some plywood where the accounts are kept. The light isn't great in the back, so we have a lot of tube lights hanging from the ceiling. Most of the staff have been with us for a long time, so we all know where everything is. We don't bother with fancy uniforms or anything. Just practical clothes that can get a bit of grease on them. The yard outside has some old scrap piled up that we mean to clear out one day. We have tea together in the afternoon near the main gate. It’s a steady kind of life here. We just focus on the production schedule and making sure the parts are ready on time. No one here is trying to be corporate. We just do the work we know how to do without any fuss or complicated systems.
