Mahabir Bricks

Our brickyard is located in Village and Post-Sadaipur, right across from the Bakreswar Thermal Power Project in the Birbhum district. Being right opposite the power project means there is always a lot of activity and big chimneys in view. Mahabir Bricks is a local operation, and most of the people working here live just down the road. We deal with a lot of earth and water every day to get the bricks just right. It is not the kind of job you do if you mind getting your hands dirty. The sun in Birbhum gets incredibly hot during the summer months, which makes the work out in the open pretty exhausting. We usually start very early in the morning to beat the worst of the heat. There isn't much of a front office here, just a small space to keep the records and talk to the drivers. We don't have any polished speeches or big promises to make. We just produce bricks because that is what we know how to do. Sometimes the rain slows us down or makes the ground too muddy for the trucks, but we just wait it out and get back to it when things dry up. It is a straightforward way of living. We have been here in Sadaipur for a long time and the locals know where to find us if they are building something new.
