Patel Engineering & Machineries

If you go over to Santoshi Para at Jagriti Chowk, you'll find Patel Engineering & Machineries. We're at Plot No- 221 in Camp 2, Bhilai. It’s a busy industrial kind of area. We do a lot of machine work and engineering stuff here. The shop floor is usually covered in metal shavings and the smell of cutting oil. We have a couple of lathes and some welding equipment. It’s loud when everything is running at once. My brother and I started this after working for other people for years. We decided it was better to be our own bosses. It’s not always easy, especially when a machine breaks down or a part doesn't arrive on time. We do repairs and also build some custom parts for local factories. The office is just a corner partitioned off with some plywood. We keep the blueprints and the invoices there. People come by with sketches on napkins sometimes, asking if we can make something. We look it over and see what we can do. It’s practical work. We don't have a website or anything like that. Word of mouth usually keeps us busy enough. Bhilai is a steel town, so there’s always something that needs fixing or making. We just do our part in the middle of it all. It is what it is, just a small shop trying to do things right every day for the folks around here.
