First Step Public School

We are based in Kanavaipatti, which is near Batlagundu in the Dindigul district. The school is a bit away from the main town noise, which is nice for the students. It’s called First Step because that’s really what we are for most of the kids here—their first real experience with a classroom. The building is a plain structure with a good amount of space around it for the children to play during their breaks. We have kids coming in from the nearby villages, some on the school bus and some walking with their families. Inside, it’s all very functional with rows of desks and cupboards full of books and supplies. We have the usual daily routine of assembly, classes, and lunch breaks. The weather out here in Dindigul can get quite hot, so the fans are almost always going in the afternoon. We don’t have a big corporate office or anything like that; the principal’s desk is just in a corner room near the entrance. Most of the people who work here live nearby, so it feels very much like a community project. We just try to make sure the kids are learning what they need to and that the school stays in decent shape. It’s a straightforward place without any frills, just focusing on the day-to-day job of running a school in a rural area and making sure the classes happen on time.
