About Saar Eri Silk Producer Company Limited – Agriculture & Farming in Dhemaji
We are a small group of people working out of Mahari Camp Chapari. It’s in the Gogamukh area of Dhemaji. Most of us here have been dealing with silk since we were kids. Eri silk is what we do mostly. It’s not like those big factories you see in the city. Our workspace is pretty simple and we spend a lot of our time looking after the worms and getting the cocoons ready. The weather in Assam can be a bit tricky for this work. Sometimes it’s too humid and that changes how the silk feels. We don’t have any fancy marketing people or anything. It’s just us doing the work every day. My cousin helps with the spinning and a few neighbors come by to help with the sorting when it gets busy. We stay here because it’s where our families are. The roads around Dhemaji aren't always great, especially when the rains come heavy. We just try to keep things moving along. Sometimes we sit around and drink tea and talk about the next batch. It’s a slow process, but you can’t really rush silk. We don’t have a big mission or anything like that. We just want to keep the tradition going and make enough to get by. It’s quiet work, and most days are exactly like the one before it. We like the rhythm of it, even if it’s hard on the hands sometimes.
