We are located in the RK Mill Compound over in Bapuji Nagar. It’s a busy area with a lot of movement every single day. Being in a compound means there are always other businesses around and trucks coming in and out of the main gate. Our part of the building is filled with the sound of the milling equipment from morning until late evening. It’s not the cleanest job in the world, you end up with rice husks in your pockets and hair by the end of a shift. We focus on the processing side of things, taking the raw material and getting it ready for the market. It’s a lot of watching the machines to make sure nothing gets stuck. We have a small team of guys who have been with us for years. We eat lunch together in the shade when it gets too hot inside the mill. The office is just a corner partitioned off with some plywood where we keep the ledger and the scale receipts. It’s a very practical setup because we don't need anything more than that to get the job done. Sometimes the power goes out and everything stops, which gives us a bit of a break, but then we have to work twice as hard to catch up. It’s just the reality of running a mill in this part of town. We keep things simple and try to finish the work before sunset.
