City Brick & Traders

Over at 82/3 Nadar Street in Palaiyur, you can find our yard. It’s tucked away a bit, but most locals know where Nadar Street is. We do a mix of things here, both making bricks and trading them. It’s a bit of a crowded space because we try to keep a lot of variety on hand. The ground is almost always covered in a layer of fine brick dust. You get used to the smell of earth and wet clay after a while. I’ve been working here for a long time, and I’ve seen the neighborhood change quite a bit. We get all sorts of people coming through the gate. Some want just a few bricks to fix a garden wall, others are contractors working on big projects. We treat everyone the same, really. We just tell them what we have and what the price is today. Prices change sometimes depending on the cost of wood for the kiln or the transport. We don't have a website or anything like that. If people want to talk to us, they just show up or give a call on the mobile. It’s better that way. You can see the quality of the bricks for yourself before you buy them. The winters are okay, but the monsoon season is tough on us. We have to be careful about where we stack the finished goods so they stay dry.
