Rani Store

Rani Store is tucked away on Station Road in Katrasgarh, not too far from Ekbal Mansion. It’s a familiar spot for anyone living around this part of Dhanbad. We’ve been operating out of this small space for quite a while now. The building is older, and the walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, but it works for what we do. We mostly stock the basics that families need every day. You can find rice, dals, cooking oils, and some of those small plastic toys that children always point at. The morning usually starts with people coming in for milk or bread before the sun gets too high. It gets quite dusty because of the traffic moving towards the station, so we spend a lot of time wiping down the jars and packets. We don't have any staff really, just family members taking turns behind the counter. Sometimes we run out of things because the supplier didn't show up on Tuesday like he was supposed to. That’s just part of running a shop here. We know the birthdays of half the kids in the neighborhood because they come here for chocolates. It’s a simple business. We open the shutters in the morning and stay until the street gets quiet at night. It’s not a complicated life, just selling what people need and chatting with the neighbors who walk through the door.
