This company is based over at Mahendra Singh’s spot in Tonk Khurd. We called it Thriving Agriculture Development And Farmer Producer Company Limited, which sounds quite official on paper, but we’re mostly just local folks. Dewas is a big farming area, and we wanted to make sure the people growing the food actually get a fair deal. It’s not always easy. We spend a lot of time talking to the farmers about what they need for the next season. Some days we are just moving bags around or checking on the quality of the grain. It's a practical business. We don't spend money on fancy advertisements. Most of our members just walk in when they have a question or need to settle some accounts. The office isn't much to look at, but it serves the purpose. We manage the collection and the sales for the group. It’s better than everyone trying to sell their small bits individually. Mahendra keeps things running from his place. We deal with whatever the season brings, whether it’s soy or wheat or something else. There’s a lot of talk about the markets, but we try to keep it simple. It’s about making sure the work we do in the fields actually results in something we can live on. We are just a bunch of neighbors working toward the same thing. It takes time, but we’re getting there slowly. We have meetings under the shade sometimes when it's too hot inside. We just want to keep things moving for everyone involved here.
