Down in Village At Post Jagdishpur, things move a bit slower than in the big cities. B K S Clay Brick Industry is situated right near the government school, so we always hear the kids shouting and the school bell ringing throughout the day. It’s a familiar sound that lets us know what time it is without even looking at a watch. This part of Gopalganj has always had good clay, which is why we are set up here. The work is very manual, with a lot of digging and mixing by hand. We have a crew of workers who have been with us since we started, and they are more like family than employees at this point. When the monsoon hits, the whole place turns into a muddy mess, and we have to shut down the firing for a while. That’s just the natural cycle of this business. We don't do any big advertising; people in the village and the nearby towns just know where we are. We have a small desk where we keep the ledger, but most of the business happens outside in the dirt. It’s a basic life, making one brick at a time, but it’s what keeps the village growing. The smoke from our chimney is just a regular part of the Jagdishpur skyline now, and we plan on keeping it that way for a long time.
