We are very close to the Buteshwar Mandir Chowk, which makes it easy to give directions to people. It’s a simple saloon for men and boys mostly. We have the standard revolving chairs and a long mirror that runs across the main wall. The floor is tiled, and we spend a lot of time sweeping up hair throughout the day. Jail Road is always packed with cars and bikes, so it’s never quiet here. You can hear the temple bells sometimes too, especially in the mornings. We keep a small radio on a shelf to provide some background music, usually just whatever station is playing the local hits. It’s a small shop, and there is usually a bench against the wall for people to sit and wait their turn. We have a few old newspapers and some sports magazines lying around for them to read while the scissors are busy. The lighting is just a few long tube lights on the ceiling that hum a little.
