L Jawaya Ram Jai Chand

L Jawaya Ram Jai Chand is located right in Block I of Shradhanand Market. If you know Lahori Gate, you know how crowded it gets. No. 11 is our spot, and it’s been that way for a long time. The market is always a bit of a maze with people carrying bundles and rickshaws trying to squeeze through the narrow lanes. Our shop doesn't have any of those modern glass fronts you see in the malls. It’s an old-school place with high ceilings and wooden shelves that have been there forever. We open up early because the market starts moving before the sun is even fully up. The smell of the old city is everywhere, a mix of spices, exhaust, and tea. It’s noisy and sometimes it feels like everyone is shouting at once, but that is just how business happens here. We have neighbors who have been in their shops for generations, just like us. It’s not a polished environment. There is always some dust on the floor and the walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, but it works for us. We spend our days talking to people who walk in from the street, writing out receipts by hand, and watching the chaos of Lahori Gate from our doorstep. It’s a simple way of doing things and we don't feel the need to change it much.
