Janta Rubber Works has been at 330, Punja Sharif, right in the Kashmere Gate area for a long time. If you’ve ever been to this part of Delhi, you know how tight the lanes are and how many people are always rushing around. Our shop is in one of those old buildings that has been around forever. The stairs are narrow and the rooms have high ceilings that stay cool even when it is baking outside. We deal with all sorts of rubber parts and materials. The shelves are packed high with stock, and sometimes it takes a bit of hunting to find exactly what a customer is looking for. We know where everything is, even if it looks like a mess to someone else. There is a lot of dust because of the old walls and the traffic outside, but we try to keep the products clean. The workers here are like family. We’ve seen the neighborhood change over the years, with new shops opening and old ones closing, but we’re still here doing the same thing. Usually, there is a lot of shouting and horns honking from the street, but you stop noticing it after an hour or two. We don't do any big advertising. People find us by word of mouth or because they’ve been coming to us for twenty years. It’s a simple, honest way to make a living in a very crowded city.
