Our place is in Kalkaji at 1805/9. It’s a small office where we handle service calls for different household appliances. Most of the day is spent coordinating with the technicians who are out in the field across the city. The phone doesn’t stop ringing once the clock hits ten in the morning. We deal with people who are often frustrated because their machines broke down at the worst time. We just listen to them and try to get someone to their house as fast as we can manage. The office is pretty basic, just a few old desks and a wooden bench for people to wait on. We have a lot of spare parts and wires stacked in the corners. Sometimes it feels like we’re drowning in paperwork and yellow repair receipts. We’ve been in Kalkaji for a good while now, so we know every street and lane well. It’s a busy neighborhood and finding a parking spot near our door is almost impossible most days. We take turns going out to get tea from the little stall at the corner of the street. We aren't a big corporation with a fancy call center or music on hold. It’s just a few of us here trying to keep things running. If a technician is running late, we’re the ones who have to hear about it from the customers. We just do the work and go home at the end of the day.
