Our place is in the Alishan Building, number 40, right in the middle of the Kirti Nagar Industrial Area. If you know Delhi, you know Kirti Nagar is always packed with trucks and people moving stuff. We focus on fine chemicals here, which is a bit different from the heavy industrial stuff. The office is tucked away in the building and it’s usually filled with the smell of lab samples or just that dusty industrial air from outside. We spend our mornings checking inventory and making sure the storage conditions are right for the more sensitive batches. It’s a small team, so everyone ends up doing a bit of everything, from answering the door to checking the ledgers. We don’t have any fancy receptionists or anything like that. You just walk in and someone will help you. The Alishan Building has seen better days, but it’s sturdy and it works for what we need. Dealing with fine chemicals takes a bit of a careful hand, so we try not to rush things too much even when the phone is ringing off the hook. It’s a steady kind of work. We’ve got our routine down now. Lunch usually involves someone going out to grab tea or samosas for the group from the street vendors.
