Our industry is tucked away in Tumbajote, near the Matigara police station in the Darjeeling district. Shivam Fruit Processing Industry is where we spend our time dealing with the local harvests. Being in Darjeeling means we get some great fruit coming through our doors depending on the time of year. It’s a busy place when the season is right. We have crates piled up and people moving back and forth constantly. When things are quiet, we spend our time maintaining the equipment and getting ready for the next batch. We don't have a polished corporate image. Our walls have some stains and our clothes usually have a bit of fruit juice on them by noon. That’s just part of the job. We hire people from around Matigara because they know the area and the fruit. It feels more like a community project than a big factory. We don't use complicated words to explain what we do. We take the fruit, process it, and get it ready for people to use. It is a straightforward process that has worked for us for a long time. The air in Tumbajote is usually fresh, which is nice when you're working hard. We aren't trying to be famous. We just want to make sure the work is done right before we head home to our families in the evening.
