Ashim Hair Cutting Saloon

Ashim Hair Cutting Saloon is on Sushratnagar Road, right near Medical More in Siliguri. It’s quite close to the Shiv Mandir, so there are always people walking around and bells ringing in the distance. Being near the hospital area means there’s a lot of traffic and people coming and going at all hours. I open the shop early because some people like to get their hair cut before they go to work or the hospital. The shop is a typical saloon with the big chairs and the razors and scissors. I spend most of my day standing on my feet, which gets tiring by the evening. The mirrors are old but they still work fine. We get all sorts of people here, from kids who don't want to sit still to older men who have been coming for years. I like the smell of the aftershave and the talcum powder in the air. It’s a smell I’ve been around my whole life. The ceiling fan wobbles a little bit when it’s on high speed, but it keeps the place cool during those hot Siliguri afternoons. We don't really have a fancy waiting area, just a bench for people to sit on while they wait their turn. It's a simple life on Sushratnagar Road. We just keep the scissors moving and try to keep everyone looking decent before they head back out into the crowd.
