Anandamayee Rice Mill

Running Anandamayee Rice Mill in Paresh Nagar takes up pretty much all our time. We are right on Sevoke Road here in the Siliguri Mill area, specifically in Village Laxmi Jamader Goch. It is a busy spot. Every morning starts early, usually before the sun is even fully up, because that is when things need to get moving. The machines make a lot of noise. It is just the way it is. You get used to the humming and the vibration under your feet after a while. Most of the day is spent looking at grain and making sure the bags are filled right. There is always dust in the air, no matter how much you sweep. People come by the mill all day long. Some are drivers, others are just neighbors from around the village area. We don't have a fancy office or anything like that. Just a desk with too many papers and some old chairs. Sometimes the power goes out and everything stops, which is frustrating but it gives us a minute to sit down and have some tea. Then we get right back to it once the lights flicker back on. It is hard work and my hands are always a bit rough from handling the sacks. That is just life at the mill. This place has been here for a while now and most people around Siliguri know where to find us.
