Karnataka Iron Works

We’ve been on Balmatta Road for a long time now. The building we are in is quite old and it definitely shows its age, but it serves its purpose for what we do. Inside, it's mostly just iron and steel and the various tools we use to work them. It’s a loud place to spend a day. Between the hammering and the machines running, you usually have to raise your voice just to be heard by someone standing next to you. We don't have any fancy signs or a polished reception area for guests. If you come by to see us, you’ll probably find us in the back covered in soot or metal shavings. It’s just how this kind of job is. The floor is made of concrete and it’s seen better days for sure. We have a small office tucked in the corner where we keep the books and papers, but even that area gets dusty no matter how much we clean. We take our lunch breaks together and talk about whatever is going on in the neighborhood. Balmatta Road has seen a lot of changes over the years but we’re still here doing the same thing. It’s not a complicated business. People need iron work done and we do it for them. Sometimes the weather makes it hard to work, especially when it’s too hot in the shop. We just keep the fans going and get through the day's tasks.
