Jai Jagannath Rice Mill

The mill is located right on the Main Road here in Krisna Ganj. You can usually hear the big machines running from a distance before you even see our front gate. It’s a loud place to work, but that’s just how a rice mill is supposed to be. We’ve got dust on our boots most days and the smell of raw grain is everywhere you go. It’s hard, physical work, especially when the harvest comes in and the trucks start lining up outside on the road. We don’t have any fancy signs or a big lobby for visitors. There’s just the main floor and a small corner where we keep the books and the phone. Most of our day is spent watching the machines and making sure nothing gets stuck in the rollers. The sun gets pretty hot in the afternoons, and the tin roof doesn’t help much with the heat, but we’re used to it by now. We’ve lived in Krisna Ganj all our lives, so we know most of the farmers who bring their crops to us. It’s a long day, starting before the sun is fully up and finishing when it’s getting dark. We don’t try to act like we’re some big industrial giant. We are just a local mill doing what we’ve always done. Sometimes a machine breaks down and we have to fix it ourselves with whatever tools we have. It’s not a perfect setup, but it works.
