Vdsr Rolling Mills

Thandrampet Road is where you will find us at number one. It is a long stretch of road and things can get quite dusty when the wind picks up. The rolling mills make a lot of noise, a deep thumping sound that you get used to after a week of working here. We usually start the day before the sun is fully up just to beat the worst of the heat. The metal gets hot fast and stays that way until evening. Most of the guys here wear old boots that have seen better days. There is a small area in the corner where we keep our lunch boxes. It is nothing special, just some wooden benches and a rusty sink. We have a lot of scrap metal piled up in the back. Sometimes the stray cats from the neighborhood hide in there during the rain. The gates are heavy iron and they squeak every time someone opens them. We keep meaning to oil them, but there is always something more urgent to do. Customers come by with their lorries and we spend a lot of time checking the weights. The office is just a small room partitioned off with some old plywood. It stays a bit cooler in there, but not much. We drink a lot of water throughout the shift. It is hard work, but it is what we know. The road outside is always busy with tractors.
