Down at 9/1 Parashakthi Koil Street, near the bypass in Cuddalore, you will find our shipbuilding spot. Raads Shipbuilding is situated in the Commiyampettai area, and it is a place where there is always the smell of metal and salt in the air. We spend our days working on boats and ships, which is heavy and tiring work. The yard is close to the bypass, so it is easy to get materials in, but it also means there is constant noise from the trucks passing by. We have been here for a while, and the local people know where to find us. It is not a clean job; there is rust, paint, and welding sparks everywhere. Most of the guys here are more comfortable with a wrench or a torch than a pen. We have a small office for the basic stuff, but the real work happens outside. When the weather gets rough, we have to cover things up and wait for the rain to stop. We don't have any big marketing slogans. We just fix and build ships because that is what we know how to do. It takes a long time to get a boat right, and we just put in the hours until it is done. It is a gritty, practical life here in Cuddalore, and we are usually covered in some kind of grease by the end of the day.
