Maa Subhadra Bricks Company

Down here in Nayagram, East Midnapore, you’ll find the Maa Subhadra Bricks Company. It is a quiet place compared to the big cities, and that is just the way we like it. We have a large piece of land where we make our bricks using the local clay. It is hard, physical work that involves a lot of digging, molding, and watching over the kiln. I spend most of my day outside with the workers, making sure the fire is just right and the bricks are cooling properly. We don’t have an office with a computer or a fancy sign. Most of our business comes from people in the nearby villages who are building their own homes or small shops. They know where we are and they just walk in to ask about prices and availability. We don't have a marketing budget or any sales people. If we make good bricks, people buy them; if we don't, they won't. It’s a very simple and honest way to live. The weather is our biggest challenge, especially when the rains come and we have to cover everything up to keep it from washing away. It can be a bit of a struggle sometimes, but we have a good team of local people who help each other out. We’re not looking to become a giant company, we just want to keep making bricks and supporting our families here in Nayagram.
