Anandamoyi Furniture

If you head down Srirupa Road in Contai, you will find Anandamoyi Furniture. We are near the post office and the police station, so it’s a very central part of the town in Purba Medinipur. The smell of sawdust is the first thing you notice when you walk in. We have a lot of finished pieces on display, but there is always something being built in the back. It isn't a shiny showroom like you see in the big cities. The floor is often covered in wood shavings, and the tools are spread out on the workbenches. We have a few local craftsmen who have been with us for a long time. They know their way around a piece of teak or sal wood better than anyone else. People from the surrounding villages often come in to look at beds or cupboards for their homes. We don't do much advertising; most people just know we are here because of the location. The owner is usually sitting at a small desk near the front, writing out receipts by hand. We have an old ceiling fan that keeps the air moving, but it’s still quite warm most days. Sometimes the delivery truck blocks the narrow road for a bit, but the neighbors are used to it. It’s a simple, honest business where we focus on making things that will last a long time in someone’s house.
