Om Velavan Coir Export

Our business is located out on Valparai Main Road in Pilchinnambalayam. We are near the Samathur Post, so we get our mail there. Working with coir means there is always a bit of dust in the air and the smell of coconut husks everywhere. It is a very rural setting compared to the big cities nearby. We spend a lot of time outside because that is where the material is kept. We have to watch the weather closely because if it rains, the coir will not dry properly, and that puts us behind on our work. It is a lot of physical labor, lifting and moving the heavy bundles around the yard. We are not a big corporation with fancy computers; we mostly just have a ledger and some old phones to keep things going. The road to Valparai is always busy with people heading up to the hills, but we just stay here and do our work. People in the village of Samathur know us well because we have been here for a good while. Some days are slow and we just sit and talk under the shade of the trees during the hottest part of the afternoon. Other days, we are rushing to get a shipment ready for export. It is a lot of waiting for trucks to show up. We just take it one day at a time and try to make sure the fiber is good. It is honest work and it keeps us busy.
