Umapathy Coconut Hybrid Center

If you drive down Pollachi Main Road, you’ll find us at 4/22. The sign says Umapathy Coconut Hybrid Center. It’s a bit of a trek from the main city, but this is where the trees are. We spend most of our time outside or in the shed. It’s a lot of dirt, sap, and checking on seedlings. Coconuts are what we know. We aren't sitting in an office with air conditioning most of the time. We’re out there looking at the hybrids and making sure they’re growing like they should. The road out front is always busy with buses and lorries heading into Pollachi. It gets pretty loud, but the trees sort of block some of it out. We have people stop by all the time asking about which trees to plant. We just tell them what we know from experience. There’s no big sales pitch. Either the plants look good or they don't. We take care of them every day, rain or shine. Sometimes the heat is enough to make you want to quit, but the work needs doing. It’s a simple life, really. Just us, the soil, and the coconuts. We’ve been at this spot for a long time. The address is easy to find if you’re looking for the 4/22 marker. We’re just regular folks working the land.
