Tirupur is famous for cloth, and we are right in the middle of it at E. B Colony. Our place is on the 1st Street in Gandhi Nagar. It’s a typical Tamilnadu textile setup. The sound of the machines is something you just get used to after a while. We have stacks of fabric everywhere, sometimes so high you can't see the person on the other side of the room. It’s a lot of thread, lint, and rolls of cotton. We work mostly during the daylight hours because the lighting inside isn't always the best. The street outside is usually busy with small tempos carrying bundles of clothes to the main markets. We don't have a big marketing team or a fancy office. It’s just a workspace where we manage the orders and check the quality of the weaving. Sometimes we have to move everything around just to find one specific color or pattern. It gets humid, and we keep the windows open, but that just lets in the street noise. It’s a simple life focused on the textiles. We know the people on our street and we all just do our own thing. There is always a lot to do, from counting the stock to making sure the shipments are ready for the trucks. It’s a hands-on business and we are usually right there in the middle of the mess.
